How does a heavy layer of thatch or dead grass affect Yard Gard™?
Yard Gard repels armadillos very effectively when the Yard Gard pellets come into direct contact with the soil and are watered for at least two, 30-minute watering periods during the first week after application. Watering causes the active ingredients to migrate throughout the soil forming a blanket coverage in one to two weeks. Heavy thatch or layers of dead grass of more than ½ inch may prevent the pellets from making contact with the soil, thereby interfering with an even distribution of the ingredients. For best results and to increase the effectiveness of Yard Gard, it is advised to remove the thatch or dead grass.

Will Yard Gard™ harm people or pets?
Yard Gard™ DOES NOT contain any harmful chemicals or poisons. However, the active ingredients should not be allowed to come in contact with your eyes, nose or mouth. You should keep pets and children off the treated areas for at least 24 hours after watering. Do not breath any dust that may come from the pellets. If you get any product in your eyes, immediately flush with plenty of clean water and contact your doctor. Water can also help remove particles from the nose or mouth. If you get Yard Gard™ in your eyes, nose or mouth, IT WILL HURT! It will not cause any permanent or lasting effects of any kind. The short-term pain will normally subside within 10-15 minutes.
That depends on you particular application. For lawn use, a general rule-of-thumb is to use one 20lb bag per 5000 square feet. Spread Yard Gard™ using a standard broadcast or drop spreader.
Yard Gard™ may be applied to any area that has a problem with any burrowing or rooting animals. Yard Gard™ will not transfer any taste or smell to your edible plants or vegetables. Yard Gard™ contains NO TOXINS or POISONS. You can use it anywhere with no worries about your pets or kids. Allow 24hrs after watering before letting pets or children utilize the treated area.
The pellet form of Yard Gard™ makes it extremely easy to apply. For yards and larger areas, a broadcast spreader works best. If you are working in a smaller area, a small scoop or a gloved hand can be used. No matter how you apply Yard Gard™, wash your hands with soap and water when you are finished. Do not touch your face before you wash your hands!
When is the best time to apply Yard Gard™?
That’s easy: Anytime. Yard Gard™ is not affected by temperature. Yard Gard™ is activated by water. If it is frozen, it will simply remain inert until water is available to dissolve the pellet. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles will not harm the product or reduce its effectiveness. Heat will not harm the product, either. No matter when you apply it, Yard Gard™ will not burn your lawn.
Set your Drop Spreader or Rotary Spreader to a medium setting to cover an average of 5000sq feet. Please consult your spreader manufacturer’s suggested settings to obtain a medium coverage.
